We breed geese known as Brecon Buffs. They are distinguished by their Buff coloured feathers, pink feet, pink bills, and deep brown eyes.  Pure Brecons are classified as a rare breed in the UK. They are a very hardy, medium sized goose.

The breed originated in the hills of Wales as a plump table bird, that did well on free range grazing. They are popular here as they are well able to look after themselves, can withstand very cold weather, and are very beautiful to look at. They do need a degree of protection from foxes.

They make great parents, and we have been lucky to witness goslings hatching and growing in the spring. They are not aggressive with people, but the cat gets short shrift, and the ganders get a bit tetchy with each other in the breeding season which is January/ February time.

We also hatch and grow Toulouse / Embden cross goslings for table birds. These tend to be large and stately birds.

All the geese can fly, but as long as they are happy, choose to stay where they are.  They fly up and down the field sometimes, as an early morning exercise.
