Cycling in the Mountains

Mike and Caroline welcome anyone who wishes to stay in this idyllically peaceful and rural location. Whether you wish to walk, cycle, fish, birdwatch, try a wild swim or just relax and enjoy the countryside and wildlife on the Brecon Beacons, there’s something for everyone.

We provide secure lock up for guests’ bikes, and facilities for bike washing. You can cycle from the door to Garwnant Forest Centre (around 2 miles away). Stop at the cafe for a snack and then follow the cycle trails around the forestry. The forest trails ‘Loops and Links’ link up with the Taff Trail, which is a cycle/walking path from Cardiff to Brecon featuring some amazing scenery.

Alternatively, you can try the Mountain Bike Trails at the Afan Forest Centre where they also offer cycle hire.

In the other direction, there are miles of quiet lanes and bridle ways from Beili Helyg to Ystradfellte, Sennybridge and Brecon. There are purpose built mountain bike trails in the forest along the Neath Valley, and along the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal.

Further south, there is a new purpose built mountain bike trail BIKEPARK WALES at Gethin Woods. This is a large range of single track and downhill trails, for all abilities. There’s also an optional uplift to transport you back up to the top of the park so you can do it all again. They offer bike hire (for the site, the Taff Trail, or other trails) bike shop and Woodland Cafe. The website is at www.bikeparkwales.com

We are 15 minutes from the Rheola forest where the Dragon Downhill Mountain Bike competition takes place (and also the Welsh Rally championships in recent years).

The Dragon Ride starts annually from Margam Park – about 40 minutes away.
