This room was originally for feed storage and possibly also housed a farm labourer or two. It was probably quite warm as it was directly over the cowshed. When we bought the house, it was full of bits of ancient wood, old straw and many creatures. The swallows nested in the roof here each summer and there was also evidence of owls roosting in the rafters. The swallows have since moved to the shed and we put up owl boxes in the woodland so they also had somewhere else to go when we renovated the barn into bedrooms.
The Cornstore is a superbly spacious and airy first floor en-suite double or twin room. It has lovely views to the east (over the moor) and south (over the woodland with hills behind) and to the stars.
The Cornstore has its own separate entrance via external stone steps, so you can come and go as you please, or just sit out in the sun enjoying the view and complete peace and quiet. The twin beds can be zipped together to make a super-king sized double. The zip means there is no chance you can fall down the middle.
